Summary

Pseudocoordination, often called referred to as verbal hendiadys, is limited today to a minority of Dutch dialects (in contrast to infinitive constructions in standard Dutch), but appears to have been more widespread in Middle Dutch. This usage also appears to have been continued in Afrikaans.

Lack of pseudocoordination in standard Dutch

Several studies have observed that pseudocoordination is not found in standard Dutch today. The TAKE AND construction is also not attested (cf. Ross 2021), although Masica (1976:148) indirectly and apparently inaccurately mentioned that it is used.

Imperativus-pro-Infinitivo (IPI) construction

Unlike typical pseudocoordination constructions with two finite verbs, the IPI construction involves the linking element en 'and' connecting a second clause with non-finite or uninflected verb; in Dutch, this is generally an infinitive, while in Frisian it is typically the imperative form (hence the name of the construction).
